Audio Recordings with Ashley Smart

Yesterday morning I arranged to meet one of my main actors Ashley smart, his character has a few lines that are spoken off screen (Non-Diegetic) we went to one of the drama rooms to record these lines as it was quiet and without too much background noise, allowing me to get the quality of recording I needed.
I experimented with different recording quality standards, at first I recorded using the Film quality option which uses 48Khz, this was not suitable for the situation in which the lines would be spoken, this being via a phone call, the FM quality (32Khz) was also not what I needed as it was too clear and not as distorted as a phone call would usually be, this then lead me to the Telephone quality (8Khz) this was much more like what I needed, I then began to change the mic gain and added the stereo type of recording that changes where the sound is coming from.

For the voice overs I recorded using the Film quality (48Khz) so that the words came through very clear and with high quality.

[Taken back]
Serious.

I found her doing Street magic in the park...  She had made herself a place to sleep on the park bench...  Her persuasive skills shone through her magic.
I walked over to her and paid for a game...
When I answered right she seemed pissed.

Oi, you just made me look stupid!  You gotta buy me something... Get me an egg mcmuffin.

My job is not actually to administer questionnaires. My job is to test people. Think of it as a job interview that you don’t know you’re having.

Well, thanks for thinking of me, but you know, I’m pretty happy with what I’ve got going on now. Thanks, though.
Thanks for the breakfast.

It pays.

How much?

As much as you like.

No.
You need to complete this questionnaire before we proceed.

Now you know who I am, who are you?
Emily. Are you a cat person or a dog person?

What?

Cats or dogs? Which do you prefer?

What do you care?

I’m just making conversation.
I hate cats. Too sneaky.
What’s your favorite color?

This is your idea of conversation?

Just answer the question.

I’m just saying, as someone who knows about banter, you’re really terrible at it.
Black.

Close your eyes and pick a number between one and a hundred.

Are these from your questionnaires?

Yes.

You’re surveying me? Is this the test?

Part of it.

I’m not closing my eyes. Thirty-three.

Do you love your family?”

Are you serious? You think I’d be here if I had a good family?
No.

Okay, then.
Last question.
Why did you do it?

Don’t manufacture an answer, I’ll be able to tell, and it will invalidate the test.
Scene 2
Tom

Serious.

Emily passed the questionnaire and exceeded in the practical test, she became one of the best pupils and the most skilled, although she disregarded the rules…
She chose her poet name… Woolf
Scene 6
Tom
[Non-Diegetic]

Grave, serious, ominous.

She always had questions to ask, was curious about the extent of the power of persuasion.
She completely violated the rules, as a consequence she was expelled from the school and sent away.
We told her to use her own resources and she could come back when she had reform herself… we sent her to Broken Hill.
Scene 2
Tom

The reason we came looking for you, the importance of your cooperation and protection is because you are the only one that survived… You are immune to the bare word. We were hoping that you would be able to tell us before Woolf gets to you.
Scene 7
Woolf

Tom & Wil

[Fast pace walking as a matter of urgency, walk with dominant presence, face stern and determined]

[Running with urgency, looking back, desperate to get away]

Scene 2
Wil

Blank, confused, frustrated and scared.

I don’t know… I… I… I can’t remember anything!
