Yesterday morning I arranged to meet one of my main actors Ashley smart, his character has a few lines that are spoken off screen (Non-Diegetic) we went to one of the drama rooms to record these lines as it was quiet and without too much background noise, allowing me to get the quality of recording I needed.
I experimented with different recording quality standards, at first I recorded using the Film quality option which uses 48Khz, this was not suitable for the situation in which the lines would be spoken, this being via a phone call, the FM quality (32Khz) was also not what I needed as it was too clear and not as distorted as a phone call would usually be, this then lead me to the Telephone quality (8Khz) this was much more like what I needed, I then began to change the mic gain and added the stereo type of recording that changes where the sound is coming from.
For the voice overs I recorded using the Film quality (48Khz) so that the words came through very clear and with high quality.
